RED HOOK CRITERIUM MILANO 2012

With a full travel day, we are back home from an incredible trip to Milano for the 2012 Red Hook Crit. 100 street and road racers from around the world gathered near the city center for this special bi-annual event. The following photo essay was captured on October 14th during this 22 lap brakeless fixed gear criterium.

This years trophy kept the cobble theme alive and honorable.

Rollers were provided for racers to warm up until the course was opened up.

Dave is a great organizer. These events run smooth, and it is not without a great deal of effort behind the scenes.

With all the cycling inspired clothing brands that popped up, it is still nice to see the streets eat them up.

Neil was called up first based on last years RHC Milano win.

There was no shortage of media, ultimately creating a nice archive from the event.

With the L’eroica happening the weekend before, there were a few living legends on hand to officiate the event.

Chas was the first off the start, and into the first corner.

Neil and Evan crashed together on the first lap. With spokes broken on Neil’s rear wheel, he was out for the remainder of the race.

Steve raced a strong race, holding tight in the lead pack, and finishing 11th. Great way to celebrate his birthday weekend!

Rainier saved these red tires he won, from last March’s RHC NY, to race on this day.

With 100 racers, it was a fight to get in the lead pack.

Hometown hero Francesco Martucci held a strong finish after at least one crash early.

There were 3 long straights where less technical racers could make up time from some of the more technical corners.

After a tangle with Rainier and Eduard in the last corner, it was Evan Murphy with an inside line, that lead him through the final sprint, and the win!

The crowd met the riders with a warm batch of camera flash and cheers.

Walton likes to use something up before starting something new. This was the last day on these special Giro team gloves.

Chas is good at passing his point and shoot around to help gather photos. This one was recorded by J.T.

Chas raced on his birthday, so it was an unwanted surprise when a hundred friends sang to him. Dave gets this treat at his hometown races, so it was cool to see the tradition honored for one of the races.

Not all races go as planned, but the strong stand up and keep going.
